Ray S. Pierce, B.S., M.A., J.D., was born and reared in Pine Bluff, Ark. The youngest of five children, he learned from an early age the value and necessity of helping others. It is the values of his upbringing that Pierce brings to his practice of law.
Pierce received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin before moving back home to Arkansas. Pierce earned a Master of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he earned numerous awards for writing and scholarship. Shortly before receiving his degree, Pierce was hired as a reporter for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Arkansas’s largest newspaper. |

After six years with Democrat-Gazette, the final two at the State Capitol Bureau covering the Arkansas Legislature, Pierce decided the time was right to pursue his law degree, an idea he’d been considering since his undergraduate days. Pierce enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law as a night student, working during the day and taking classes in the evening. Among his early achievements in law school were the election by his peers to serve as an associate justice on the school’s Honor Council and being a finalist in the school’s Moot Court competition, where he also honored as having written Best Respondent’s Brief.
After his second year of law school, Pierce was invited to become a member of the UALR Law Review, one of the highest academic honors in law school. His case note, “Now You Can’t Do That: Disproportionate Prison Sentences as Cruel and Unusual Punishment. Henderson v. Norris, 258 F.3d 706 (2001)” was published in the Law Review. 24 U. Ark. Little Rock L. Rev. 775 (2002). The next year, Pierce was elected by the Law Review board to serve as managing editor, overseeing subscriptions and the overall business affairs of the Law Review.
Upon his graduation with honors, and after a brief tenure as a state government lawyer, Pierce went into private practice, concentrating on real estate transactions; business formations, mergers, and acquisitions; wills and trusts; and general civil and commercial litigation. Pierce's philosophy has always been about building good relationships with his clients. It is those relationships that enable the clients to feel comfortable secure with their attorney, and their attorney to be able to best represent the clients.
